Strombo Hundo (Part One)

It’s that time of year again. We’re celebrating 2014 by running through the best records of the year as chosen by us on The Strombo Show in a two-part special.

A Very Strombo Christmas

Throw a log on the fire, drown yourself in eggnog and turn up this year’s festive special. We are spinning some of the essential and not-so-traditional songs.

Lowell & London Calling Anniversary

Lowell has been hailed as Canada’s next great pop export, and Rolling Stone magazine dubbed her “a future Kanye West.” The content of her songs, meanwhile, reflects a socially conscious mind. She explored her story with George in his home. Also, we marked the 35th anniversary of the Clash’s seminal album London Calling with a few friends of the show.

Shad & Die Mannequin

Shadrach Kabango is a Juno Award-winning rap artist who has earned heaps of praise since his self-financed debut album came out in 2005, leading to a trifecta of Polaris-nominated releases. Die Mannequin frontwoman and lyricist Care Failure strolled into George’s living room for an acoustic performance and conversation around her latest record, Neon Zero.

Basia Bulat

JUNO and Polaris-nominated Canadian folk singer-songwriter Basia Bulat tickles the ivories in the House of Strombo.

BAHAMAS

BAHAMAS (aka Afie Jurvanen), a singer-songwriter who recently dropped his third album Bahamas Is Afie, gets groovy with George’s kitchen utensils.

Andy Stochansky

Andy Stochansky, singer-songwriter known for his accomplished work alongside Ani Difranco, delivers an acoustic session. After seven years with Difranco, Andy traded his drumkit for a guitar and has earned praise from the likes of David Byrne.

“Together”

George Stroumboulopoulos brings us into his home to run through his personal album collection. A few special guests drop through to share their stories, including Steve Sladkowski from PUP, Thomas Thacker from Gob and Michael Braiden of Movember Canada.
