Andrea Warner, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Jason Reitman + Lost Cousins
The Strombo Show rolls on this Sunday night.
“Every time people ask me, ‘How do we solve this problem, or that problem in your opinion?’ it’s always the same answer: Stay calm and decolonize.” Buffy Sainte-Marie returns to the program with her biographer Andrea Warner, following her appearance on last week’s JONI 75 Celebration of Joni Mitchell episode. Buffy is one of the most important voices of the past 50-years and in a thorough conversation with Strombo, both Buffy and Andrea travel through Buffy’s life of activism, abuse, addiction, education, songwriting and the through-line of overall badassery.
Jason Reitman‘s latest film project is entitled The Front Runner, which tells the story of US Senator Gary Hart’s 1988 presidential campaign and his scandalous affair that derailed it. In light of the US mid-terms, he sits down with George to discuss sketchy politics,, scandal, hip-hop, the value of the female perspective in the Hart story and what he learned from failure. For more — we’d recently welcomed the writers of The Front Runner, Jay Carson and Matt Bai, to the House.
Lost Cousins met at Queens University, performed in jazz ensembles and earned a reputation for their epic house party performances. Since recently relocating to Toronto, they’ve crafted their debut album and in the House Of Strombo, they’ll reveal some of those colours and cover the Cocteau Twins. If you need more from them, listen to their cover of Joni Mitchell’s “Help Me” from last week’s JONI 75.
We’ll also premiere new music from Christine Fellows, Old Man Canyon and TALLIES.
